Why is the Twilight series so popular?

I haven't witnessed such book mania since Harry Potter. I just saw two teenage boys reading Twilight, and I can't keep the books on the shelves (yeah!). I thought Meyer's novels would only appeal to girls, but everyone is getting in on the craze (even my assistant and I). So what's up with that? The romance appeals to me, but what appeals to teens...especially boys?

I wonder if its because Edward is everything a guy would like to be--handsome, strong, chivalrous, and smart?

I think the Twilight series is so popular because for one, it is very easy to read, and although it is a long book, you get through it very fast. Another reason is because it is incredibly believeable! You believe you could move to a random little town, and meet a gorgeous vampire who would sweep you off your feet! Who doesn't wish for that? He's rich, gorgeous, lives forever, can make you live forever, mesmirizing, captivating, come on, seriously? Who would pass up the chance to read about that kind of guy!?
