Why is the Twilight series so popular?

I haven't witnessed such book mania since Harry Potter. I just saw two teenage boys reading Twilight, and I can't keep the books on the shelves (yeah!). I thought Meyer's novels would only appeal to girls, but everyone is getting in on the craze (even my assistant and I). So what's up with that? The romance appeals to me, but what appeals to teens...especially boys?

New Books Just in...

Perfect by Natasha Friend and City of Ember by Jeanne DuPrau have just arrived. Perfect is a Soaring Eagle nominee for 2008 which explores a girl's struggles with anorexia and grief. City of Ember is a futuristic novel. Lina and Doon's underground city is starting to die. They must find out why before the lights go out forever.

What is the best book you've read this month? Why?

I'm reading Epic by Conor Kostick. It's an intriguing idea. Part of the book is set in a place called New Earth, but part of the book occurs within a video game. Erik's avatar is a beautiful female. If she succeeds in the game, he succeeds in keeping his family from being reallocated (shipped away to the mines and separated). Whole families play Epic, and success determines economic advancement in the "real world." I'm not very far, but I'm hooked.
